Breaking Loose—Bernardo Bertolucci Film Festival Design 

The Struggles In Life

[ OBJECTIVE ]

Research a film director and his film style to created an overall concept. Based on this, design a film festival for this director. All design deliverables have to reflect this visual language and the film style of the director. 

[ APPROACH ]

I picked Bernardo Bertolucci for this film festival project. I researched five films, which are The Sheltering sky, Last Tango In Paris, The Dreamers, The Last Emperor, and Little Buddha. Then Based on the study of Bertolucci’s films, I created the overall concept of people struggling in their lives. Then, I started to take photos of my hands in different scenes because I wanted to create that feeling of struggle. At the same time, I drew many drafts of the logotype because I wanted the typeface to communicate the same feeling to fit in my visual language. After I took all the photos, I started to build the master mood board of the project. Then, I used all the visual elements, which I generated in the master mood board combined with my logotype to design all those deliverables.
